The least expensive way of studying in the UK is to attend a state school whilst living with a host family. You should not assume that because it is the least expensive arrangement, it is not good. We have some superb state schools where foreign students achieve great success. Many acquire their "A" levels or International Baccalaureate enabling them to attend a university in their own country or the UK.

For Non-EU Resident students the fee is £8,995 FOR ONE YEAR. It is not possible for a non EU student to be accepted for less than a full year. These fees must be paid in full at the start of the course.

LATE APPLICATION FEE:

£150. This fee is charged when we are requested to make arrangements to attend a school less than 30 days before the start of term or after the term has commenced.

EXTENSION OF STAY:

It is normally possible to extend an initial stay of less than a year. In such cases, we will quote you the additional price to pay plus an administrative supplement of £100. No supplement is charged if a pupil decides to stay on after completing a three term stay.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE INCLUDED IN OUR STATE DAY SCHOOL SERVICE:

  • Advice on the selection of a suitable school.

  • Placement with a host family for the full period of stay - but excluding the Christmas & Easter holiday periods when most students like to return home. The family will provide full board, breakfast, lunch and evening meal during all weekends and half-term holidays, but during the school week - Monday to Friday - the student will be able to purchase a meal in the School Canteen. Assume an average of £2.75 or less per day. All schools offer a choice of meals.

  • Advice from a specialist member of the school staff (usually after arrival) on the selection of subjects which will form a course of study. Such choices are generally made on the basis of a student’s future aims.

  • Preparation for public examinations such as GCSE and "A" levels where the length of the chosen course makes it possible. Some schools offer the International Baccalaureate.

  • Guardianship which ensures that if there are any problems at the school or with the family, every effort will be made to solve them. Where a pupil lives with a host family, the situation is constantly monitored. If a pupil is unhappy with the family for what we consider to be justifiable reasons, consideration will be given to making a change.

Prices of Other Possible Arrangements

State Boarding Schools

Fees vary from school to school but assume an average of around £3130 per school term (This fee is paid direct to the school).

State Boarding schools are more likely to offer places to pupils who can stay for a full academic year since the demand for beds is so high. However, we will always try to negotiate the length of stay but it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a state boarding school place for less than a year. The main reason for this is the school does not wish to have an empty bed for the remainder of the school year after the pupil has left. They will not be prepared to allocate a place to a student for part of a year when there are other students who are prepared to stay for the full academic year.

It will be noted that the only arrangement we charge an application fee for, whether or not the application is successful, is a State Boarding school. The main reason for this is that places in the better schools are in very small supply and the whole process is very time consuming.

Independent Schools (Private)

The fees charged by independent (private) boarding schools vary from school to school, but around £7500 per term is an average. This fee is paid direct to the school and not Barnes Educational Services. Many private schools will only consider a pupil who is prepared to stay for a minimum of three terms - an Academic Year from September to July.

As we have contacts in many of the finest UK independent schools we are happy to help any client to locate a suitable school and make all necessary arrangements.

All boarding schools require students from abroad to have an officially appointed Guardian in the UK. This could be a friend of yours who resides in England. Alternatively we can provide a Guardianship Service at a very competitive price.
